Ikebana without Flowers Online Challenge

Sogetsu Ikebana is indeed an incredibly creative art. From throw-away branches, stones and pebbles, to vegetables and fruits, you can use all these in place of flowers. These are what our members came up with.

Jingdezhen flow glaze tea caddy, crimson red grapes (Vitis vinifera), black mission figs (Ficus carica), garlic scapes (Allium sativum ophioscorodon), Fritz Hansen brass holder, pine canvas, oak bench. I wanted to examine three words on everyone’s lips nowadays – 'essential or not'? This work is a study on what is in the middle of often reductive simplifications of very complex circumstances – good vs bad, essential versus non-essential, pleasure versus suffering, privilege versus disadvantaged. In this strange global climate, what new state of balance will we arrive at in the near future?
